BLOG ADS

Parents
The service that we use to automatically notify you when the blog is updated has changed their terms of service in such a way that an ad will begin showing up at the bottom of the email that comes to you.  Your email address is still not being shared with anyone other than the school!  The mere placement of advertising in school communications is of concern to us, especially since we have no control over what the ad may be.
We are exploring other means of providing this service to you at this time.  For now, we ask your patience as we work through the concern.  In the meantime, if you receive an ad that is objectionable to you, we would appreciate your notifying the school, and holding onto it so that it may be forwarded to proper personnel.
Thank you for your patience!"

Word Journeys!

                                                                             spelling
                                                                        journeys

Throughout the year our class will be taking word  journeys.  To enhance our spelling skills we will be focusing on patterns in words and word features.  Students will be assessed and then broken into groups based on student weaknesses/strengths.

These Journeys will build not only spelling skills, but will add to their Vocabulary, Phonics, and Reading skills

These features may include:

  • long vowels patterns
  • silent e
  • blends br, nt, st
  • digraphs  th, ch,
  • homophones
  • compound words
  • and many more...

Spelling test will be given on Fridays and students will be tested on not only on selected words from the spelling list, but also on additional words that follow the feature or word pattern of study.

Be looking in your child's planner to see what spelling skill we are working on each week.   (if you have any questions I will answer them at Open House)

I wanted to take a moment at let you know about some important things we will be doing in 2nd grade.

Pen Pals: By an overwhelming vote we will be having pen pals again.  The students seemed to really love this activity and it allows them to practice so many writing skills at the same time.  How could I tell them no?

Towne News!:  I write the Towne News Monthly and try to include any upcoming events as well as skills and vocabulary that we are working on in class.  Here is a link to the August publishing of the Towne News!
Download towne_new1.doc

Planners:  As I have told most of you, I use the student planners for homework, assignments, upcoming events, and reminders.  I will also write you a note if there are any behavior issues.  Please remember to read and sign the planner nightly.  I have explained that this task takes less then a minute and that there is no excuse for it not coming to school everyday signed.  This will help them to become responsible students.

Specials Rotation: Students wrote the specials rotation in their planner.  Make sure that on PE days students have correct clothing and shoes.

MARK YOUR CALENDERS!
Open House is September 4th at 6:30.
Hope to see you there!

Summer is here!!!

http://www.GlitterMaker.com/ - Glitter Graphics

I am excited to announce that we will be moving up to 2nd Grade together!  I have decided to loop with the class and continue being their teacher for next year.  There has been a lot of research done that shows that students that remain with the same teacher for multiple years gain classroom instruction time.  They also create strong bonds with other students as well as the teachers.  And as you all have discovered more open communication between parents and the teacher.

I will continue to check my email this summer so feel free to contact me if you need anything.  I have had a great year and THANKS to all of you for helping support our classroom.
