Vocalier News Fall 2007
Vocalier will begin next Tuesday from 2:30-3:45 in the music room!
Here is important information regarding the 2007-08 school year:
Attendance:
All members are expected to attend each rehearsal on Tuesdays from 2:30-3:45 unless they have an excused absence (illness, death in the family, doctor appointment). I require written notification in order to mark the student excused. If a student misses three rehearsals before a given performance, they will not be prepared and therefore unable to perform with the group for that performance. Vocaliers will not meet on the Tuesdays of conference weeks. With few exceptions, we will rehearse every Tuesday through the school year until mid-May. Please commit to attending each rehearsal.
Pick up:
Please note that rehearsal ends at . Please arrange for your child to be picked up or stay in after school program by . After , any child not picked up will be placed in the after school program at a cost of $7.00 per day.
Behavior:
Due to the high interest in Vocaliers, we will have over 70 singers in the Music Room during rehearsals. Teaching time is very precious so behavior must be excellent. The students will also need to be on our best behavior as we go out into the community to represent our school. Therefore, written behavior slips will be sent home for parental signature if a student’s behavior is not respectful and responsible at all times during any Vocalier function. Any student who receives three behavior warnings will be dismissed from Vocaliers.
Music Fees:
Vocaliers is an extra curricular activity and is not supported by school funds. Therefore, each member is asked to pay a nonrefundable music and supply fee of $25.00. This fee should be paid by the September11th rehearsal. Please make checks out to Varner and place in the school safe. Mark the check and the payment envelope Vocaliers.
Attire:
The Vocaliers will be wearing uniform attire on stage this year. We will be ordering a polo-type knit shirt in burgundy with “Varner Vocaliers” monogrammed in silver. We will wear black pants or skirts with our burgundy shirt. The cost of the shirt will be $16.00. Students will be required to wear a Vocalier shirt and black pants in order to perform with the group. The pants (skirt) need to be purchased by the parents before the first performance. If you are ordering a shirt, please send in the order form and shirt money with the music fees. ($41.00 total) If your family is unable to pay these fees, please see Mrs. Rowland privately and we will work something out. No child will be excluded for inability to pay the fees.
Extra rehearsals:
Vocaliers will be most likely participating in large group performance evaluation in February. We will be graded by judges on two pieces we sing. Festival is also a great time to get to hear other groups in our area perform. Prior to festival, we may need to have a few extra rehearsals in the morning before school. I will give plenty of notice before these rehearsals. These rehearsals will not count as unexcused absences if missed, but will erase one unexcused absence if attended. We also may have an extra rehearsal for the spring if needed before out final performance. I give out rehearsal schedules well in advance and dates are posted on the school website through my blog.
Volunteers needed!
I am so excited to have such a great interest in Vocaliers. However 70 + kids is a lot to manage. I would love to have some Vocalier volunteers to come help monitor kids during rehearsals and dismissal. I also need some help with refreshments at holiday time and maybe after performances. I will also need parents with interest in working on sets, props and decorations for performances. Lastly, chaperones will be needed for field trips. Volunteer forms will be sent home in the fall at the first rehearsal..
