Varner Physical Education Program

Dear Varner Families,

The Varner Physical Education Department would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to another exciting new school year. Our staff consists of Sue Jordan, Physical Education Teacher and Maureen Glendon, Physical Education Paraeducator. We are looking forward to an awesome year at Varner with your children.

Please make sure you fill out and sign the Physical Education form letting us know if your child has any health issues we should be aware of. If your child is sick or injured, please send a note telling us what their limitations are. A written note from the parents may excuse a child for up to five days. Longer periods of time require a physician’s note that states the length of time before normal participation may resume. Your physician may fax this note to the school at 770-222-3777.

Everyday school dress is acceptable for participating in physical education activities. In order to avoid injury, we do ask the students to wear tennis shoes, laced, buckled, or Velcro rubber soled shoes. Please do not wear flip flops to physical education. Girls need to wear shorts under dresses or skirts to allow more movement. Boys need to have their pants pulled up to their waist with a belt if necessary.

Weather conditions are a major factor in PE. During the hot days, we will be taking cool off breaks about every 15 to 20 minutes. They may bring a water bottle for PE filled with water only, a hat or visor, sunglasses and most important to wear sunscreen. Children need to bring coats, gloves, and hats when going outside. We do not go outside if the temperature is below 40 degrees and this includes wind chill.

PLEASE REMIND YOUR CHILDREN, THERE WILL BE NO GUM ALLOWED IN PE. If you have any questions please call us at 770-222-3775.
