Hi, my name is Sue Jordan.  I graduated in 1980 from Central Missouri State University with a double major-Elementary Physical Education and Secondary Earth Science. I taught for one year in Kansas City, MO. We moved to Montgomery, AL where my daughter, Lauren was born in 1984. We moved to Marietta, GA 15 months later.

I went to work in 1989, when Varner opened, as a substitute teacher the first year and a half. I finished the second year as a Kindergarten parapro. My third year I was employed as a half day PE parapro and half day PE teacher. Since my fourth year at Varner, I have been employed as a full day PE teacher. I received my masters degree in Health and Physical Education in 1995 from West Georgia State University.

Maureen Glendon is my full time Parapro and has been with me off and on for the last seven years. This year Angie Kirkpatrick will join us as a half time Parapro.

I enjoy working with the Varner students in extracurricular activities such as Safety Patrol and Science Olympiad. I also enjoy working the ASP desk.

This summer I will be teaching swim lessons and hanging out with my grandson Logan.  He will be 6 months old and......Yes I will have him in the water swimming like a fish!

Field Day 2009!

VARNER FIELD DAY IS HERE! Everyone is welcome to come join the fun. Parking will be scarce and you may want to carpool. Your child will be participating in Field Day either on Monday, May 18th for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd or Wednesday, May 20th for 3rd, 4th, and 5th. There will be dry events in the morning from approximately 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM and some water events in the afternoon from approximately 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM. Please dress your child appropriately – NO FLIP FLOPS. A swim suit may be worn UNDER a t-shirt and a pair of shorts. Boys may wear their swim trunks as shorts. We suggest students bring a change of clothes and shoes. BOYS AND GIRLS MAY NOT TAKE THEIR T-SHIRTS OR SHORTS OFF DURING FIELD DAY! Please put sunscreen on your child before they come to school. They may also wear hats or caps, bring water bottles with their names on them, and bring a towel to dry off. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call 770-222-3775. Fitness testing run

We are planning on completing our runs starting on April 13th. Six and seven year olds run 1/4 mile, eight and nine year olds run 1/2 mile, and ten years and older run 1 mile.
Fourth and fifth graders need to bring a change of socks and shoes. Sometimes the grass in the back field is wet from dew. Running will totally depend on weather.

Health and Fitness Fair

Come learn how you can be healthy and fit! Thursday, April 2nd, our PTA program will be a health and fitness fair. We will have some booths set up you can visit. At 6:45, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades will perform and at 7:00 3rd, 4th, and 5th will perform. Come and join your children in our activities.

Fitness Testing

We have been working on our fitness testing for the past two weeks along with a dance unit. The students have learned the Electric Slide, the Cha Cha Slide, the Cupid Shuffle, Staying Alive and some other fun dances. Please ask them to show you the steps.

PLEASE SEND YOUR CHILDREN IN TENNIS SHOES OR A PAIR IN THEIR BACK PACK!
