Unclaimed clothing

We have a large amount of unclaimed clothing in our classroom.  Please take a moment to see if you recognize any missing items.  Let us know if something belongs to your child, and we will make sure they bring it home.  Items that are still lingering on Friday, March 14th will be donated to charity.

Animal Research Project

The students are very excited about our new project!  The project ties together the first grade standards of informational writing, Canada, and animals.  Each child selected an arctic animal on which to become an expert.  Information on the project and which animal your child chose went home on Friday.

Your child can begin researching their animal at home.  The students have learned how to use an excellent resource, Cobb Virtual Library.

Access information was included in the yellow packet that went home and you can download it below.  Please let us know if you do not have internet access and need some assistance with locating information.  The completed graphic organizers are due on Thursday, February 21st.

Shadows

We have been learning about light and shadows in science.  The weather finally cooperated so we could trace our shadows outside!  Check out a few of the pictures from our fun activity!  You can click on the images to enlarge them.  We are going to check out shadow outlines tomorrow at a different time of day to see if we notice any changes.

Addition Facts

Here is a website where your child can practice addition and/or subtraction facts.  Math concepts tend to build so it is important to have a strong foundation of basic concepts such as math facts.  We have covered facts to 12 in class and we will be working with facts to 18 this quarter.

Newsletter 1/14 and Password

We played a fun game called Password to review geometry concepts.  You can play by downloading the Password game made in PowerPoint.  You and your child would take turns being the person who gives clues and the person who tries to guess the mystery shape.  Each PowerPoint slide has a new shape or geometry term to guess.  If you are guessing the mystery shape, you would stand with your back to the computer screen so you cannot see the shape.  Your child would face you and the computer screen.  Your child would give you oral clues (example: it is a plane shape, it has 4 sides, it has 4 corners, etc.) until you guess the correct shape.
