Mrs. Hooks’ Discipline Plan
Rewards:
- Class Rewards:
Mrs. Hooks will put a marble in a jar when the class as a whole earns a compliment from any staff member or parent in the building. Marbles can also be earned for cooperative behavior, completing a task in a timely manner, lunch behavior, etc. When the marble jar is full, the class will vote on a reward.
- Individual Rewards:
Students will earn “warm fuzzies”, sticks in a pouch, for showing acts of kindness, completing homework, good manners, etc. When the student has ten warm fuzzies in his/her pouch they will get to go to the treasure box for a prize. (I am always in need of goodies for the treasure box)
Individual Consequences:
Each student has a puzzle piece on the board. There is also a star, a blue, a green, a yellow, and a red light. The goal for each student is to keep the puzzle piece on blue or move to the star, meaning they are being a “superstar” and going above and beyond what is expected. If, however, your child needs to be reminded of proper classroom behavior, his/her color will be changed and the following consequences will occur:
- !st reminder (after a warning is given) – Color will be changed to green and the student receives an extra warning. This is strike one. If the behavior changes, the student may earn his/her color back to blue.
- 2nd reminder – Color will be changed to yellow. This is strike two and the student will receive time to “Stop and Think” about making better choices and partial loss of a privilege for the day. Once their color has changed to yellow it may not be earned back to blue.
- 3rd reminder – Color will be changed to red. This is strike three and the student will lose an entire privilege for the day (or following day if the reminder is at the end of the day). A “pink slip” will be sent home for the parent to sign and return the following day. Depending on the situation, the parent may be called for a phone conference.
- 4th reminder – Puzzle piece is removed from the board and an office referral made. The parent will be notified and an administrator will determine the consequences.
*If a behavior situation involves any of the zero tolerance policies, the above is null and void and the child will be sent directly to the office. If a child is endangering others or themselves, they will be sent directly to the office. If a child intentionally hurts another student, their color will immediately be changed to red and a parent will be notified.
Daily Reports of behavior:
Your child will have a daily behavior report/homework calendar in their communication folder each afternoon. I will record their color changes for the day, if any, and make note of the behavior that caused the change. You should initial the report each evening and return it in the communication folder the following day. Please know that I write these notes very quickly at the end of the day and I do not have time to go into great detail. If you have further questions after speaking with your child, feel free to contact me. Also, remember a warning is just that, a warning. Please speak with your child about the behavior and discuss how he/she can make a better choice next time. On the other hand, if your child is on yellow or red, they had several warnings and received in school consequences for their behavior. Please follow up with a discussion and consequences at home as well. I have found that when the students know we are communicating daily, and we are both consistent with praise and consequences, there are less behavior problems and more behavior successes!
