What are We Learning this Week?

Writing: We are almost finished with publishing our animal reports!   We will spend the rest of the quarter writing nonfiction procedural essays and another narrative.

Reading: We will also be learning how to read informational books.  Nonfiction books have many features that fiction books do not have, ie.  bold faced type, graphs, charts, captions, diagrams, index, glossaries, etc.  We will be exploring many of these during shared reading and guided reading time.

Math: We have been measuring the past two weeks with customary and metric units.  Next week we will be learning to calculate area and perimeter.

Social Studies: We have studied about Mary McLeod Bethune.  The children made booklets that summarized each stage of her lilfe.  We are in the process of learning about Franklin D. Roosevelt.  We are making a timeline of his life.  We will finish our biographical study on Eleanor Roosevelt, where we will make a pamphlet to tell the highlights of her life.

Science: On hold for now.  We still have a study of magnets before the end of the quarter.
