March 21, 2009: Welcome Spring!

What a beautiful Spring Saturday morning!  Many of the children have been telling us about their Springtime activities, such as softball, baseball, and basketball.  Mrs. Jackson and I would like to attend a game of your child's. if we can. So, if you will let us know upcoming schedules, we will make every effort to attend.

We are short on a few supplies in the classroom.  We need pencils, sanitizer wipes, and bandaids.  Everything else seems to be holding up okay.  We would appreciate anything you could contribute.

With the economic difficulties that some families are experiencing, we are experiencing it in our class "snack basket."  If you'd like to contribute an extra snack each month, that too, would be appreciated.

Wellstar is coming to Third Grade again on Monday.  The topic this time will be "personal hygiene."  These programs are wonderful and geared to  your children's understanding.  The children seem to gain much from them.

Only two weeks until Spring Break!  Remind your children to always do their best work.  There is still so much curriculum to cover!  And...practice those multiplication facts!  :)

Thanks for all your care and support,

Mrs. Bolduc

Well, in case you haven't heard from your child, Mrs. Bolduc is going to be a grandmother!  We are so excited for our daughter and her husband who live right outside of Nashville.  The baby is due in October.

This week's events include:

March 10 - Health assembly from Kaiser-Permanente for all students on nutrition, obesity, and the importance of exercise!

March 11 - Spring school pictures.  The envelopes were in the children's Friday Folders.  We will be having our clas picture taken.  You may want to purchase this!

Upcoming:  March 25 - Cookie Dough delivery after school.  They do not have a way to refrigerate leftovers, so be sure to pick up yours!

Thank you to everyone who helped make Teacher Appriciation Week so special!  We enjoyed all of our special treats and goodies.  We will enjoy the class gift to Panera's!

Happy Valentine's Day!

The Talent Show was a total success!  Your children shined, and many people at school were very complimentary.  We had a wonderful time preparing for it, as well.it, as w  ell.

The children's animal projects were outstanding!  They were very proud of their work, and did an excellent job presenting to their peers.

We will have a small Valentine snack and card exchange on Friday.  The children will be making something at school to carry all their treasures back home.  Here is a list of children, in case your child's list was misplaced.

I hope everyone is doing well.  The children have been real troopers with all of this testing.   Tomorrow will be our longest time, and we will be testing their math skills and knowledge.  Teachers and children will be glad to get back to a "normal" week next week!

Speaking of next week, don't forget we have our make-up field trip to the Rock Quarry next Tuesday.  If you would like to go with us, please be at Varner by 9 am.  We hope to be on the road by 9:15!

One of the courses I am taking in my EDS program at Georgia State is called "Social, Cultural, and Political Issues in Teaching and Learning."  One of our assignments is to make a "culture quilt" and share it with our students.  Then we are to have them make one of their own to share with the class, and we, as teachers, are to reflect on it.  I shared mine with the class on Monday and sent home the assignment.  The children seem very enthusiastic about it.  Some of the questions might be a bit obscure, and may be left up to interpretation.  As I shared my quilt, I explained what each block might represent.  Please have your child ask me if there are any questions or clarifications they might need.  This is supposed to be fun as well as reflective and enlightening as to the uniqueness of each individual.

Our aquarium is up and running.  Thank you for your donations.  We have already had one funeral.  If anyone would like to lend their expertise, I would be much obliged!  :)

Thank you for all of your support.  Your children are a pleasure to teach and interact with every day!

I hope everyone is enjoying their three day weekend!  I've been very busy working on my GSU program, but I got a lot accomplished this weekend.  I keep the children informed about what I am doing in my classes.  I told them I have a project for them to do as part of one of my classes.  They are very excited to be a part of my studies.  That will come in a few weeks.

I finished our "fish project" letter.  Sorry it's taken me so long to get that off the ground.  We're still trying to get a routine down, and we've gotten three new children since the first week of school.  We now have seven girls and eight boys!  Back to the aquarium... If you'd like to help, that would be great, but if not, don't worry; we don't have that many things to get.

We're excited about our field trip to the Rock Quarry.  Please make sure you return your child's permission slip and money asap.  The trip itself is free.   The $4.00 pays for the bus and bus drivers.  We are trying to get free or very inexpensive field trips this year, especially since the cost of transportation has gone up so much.

Check back next week for any updates.  Please make sure your children keep up their reading at home and sign their logs!  "The more we practice, the better we'll get!"

Welcome to Third Grade: 2008-2009

We had a wonderful first day of school!  The day seemed to just zip by!  We interviewed each other, read Chrysanthemum about a little girl with a special name, discussed how we received our names, and wrote a class book based on a jump rope chant using our names.  And that was just the morning!  We also spent some time "getting organized."  I think we are all looking forward to our second day of Third Grade!
