Conferences!

Dear Parents,

Conference time is just around the corner.  Next week in fact!  Please double check that you have marked your calendars.  We still have a few students that have not returned their confirmation slips to let us know that you will or won't be able to make the scheduled conference.  We look forward to seeing you all next week and discussing your child's progress and establish goals for the rest of the year.  Report cards will be handed out during the conference.

If you have any questions about the scheduled time, please feel free to contact me through email and I will be glad to confirm the day.

Thanks for your support.

Danger!: Volcanoes have erupted in Powder Springs...

Students should be extremely proud of their hard work on projects, posters, and presentations.  They have all been very impressive!  Check out their group photos below to see all their creativity.  (Note: some students do not have their photo release form filled out and so their group has not been added to the site)  Clicking on them will enlarge the photo to print if you'd like.

Holiday Writing

Parents & Students,

We've just finished our 2nd major informational writing piece and we're moving on to our informational recipe writing project.  For this, students will need to bring in their favorite recipe for: 1 main dish & 1 dessert.  These can be from a personal collection, a cookbook, or the internet.  Please have them copy down the recipe (don't send the original/only copy).  Extra Credit will be given for completing a holiday drink recipe or a favorite side dish that involves steps in the preparation.

If you'd like to prepare the dish and take a photo making or presenting your creation, send it in and we will put it with your son/daughters recipe.  We will bind all students' work into one big Holiday Cookbook so that students have easy recipes to help around the kitchen and have some fun doing it over the Holiday Break!  These recipes need to be brought in by Friday, December 14th, so that we can begin typing the following week.

Also, Volcano Projects have begun to arrive at school.  Students must bring in their volcanos they constructed at home on or before Friday, Dec. 14th.  This is the day they will present.  Volcanos should be constructed using any creative material and should reflect the actual volcano they are researching in class.  Extra credit is offered if they bring in materials and erupt their volcanos.

Thanks!Chef20clip20art

Varner Update: Oct. 22

Dear Parents,
Although some students may try to convince you otherwise, report cards will be coming home this afternoon.  Please take time tonight to sit down with students and reflect on the start of their 5th grade year and give praise/constructive criticism as needed.  I encourage all students to develop 1-2 specific goals for the next marking period to help them continue to grow.  (EX: Begin studying for all math tests 1-2 days before test day)  Maybe even allow them to post the goals in their room so they see them nightly during homework time and remain focused and motivated?!
Here are a few things to do & be aware of this week:
Report cards:
-Please have students complete the address on the front of the yellow envelope in pen (these are how you will receive your final report card for the year)
-Place a stamp on the envelope
-Sign the parent signature card inside the envelope
-Return UNSEALED envelope and signature card to school (report card and other documents can stay at home)
Book Fair:
-Our class is scheduled to preview the book fair on Wednesday to get ideas and cost estimates
-We will be purchasing books on Thursday
Tybee Island
-Reminder that all documents should be returned ASAP & total payment of $140.00 should be in by Oct. 26 (This Friday).
As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns about this info.  We do not have conferences for the 1st nine weeks, although we will gladly set a meeting up if you feel necessary.  Have a great week & thanks for your support.
