Spanish Fiesta

Good Morning,

As some of you have heard from the students, we are planning a fiesta in our room, of course this is going to be an educational celebration.

If anyone else would like to help- please add a note in your parent newsletter advising parents that we are in need of pinata fillers- candy, small toys, etc. I understand not all parents can bring items in but anything is better than nothing. I would really appreciate this.

This is a great time for us to celebrate a wonderful year of learning a foreign language- our students really are amazing.

Also I have advised the classes they can bring in a snack if they desire, since I will be providing beverages for all grades & tortilla chips for 4th & 5th grade, I would hope this would be okay with all teachers.

Thanks for your help making this a true fiesta!

Growth & Development

Growth & Development class is this Thursday and Friday.

Thursday:

Boys- 9:15-10:15AM

Girls 12:20-1:20 PM.

Friday:

Boys- 1:00-2:00PM

Girls 10:00-10:30AM & 11:30-12:00PM

This will be a time that students may come home with lots of questions on their mind.  I hope you will be able to find time to speak with your children about this experience and give them an opportunity to discuss any questions they may have.  I think we all remember this classroom experience as uncomfortable, embarassing, but very informative... please help make it a positive experience.  :)

Lots of Forms!

Dear Parents,

There are 3 major forms that have gone home this week that we need returned.  Many students already have brought them in already.  Just to make you more aware, they are:

1.  Middle School Registration (green) (Due ASAP)

2. Tapp Middle School field trip permission form (Due by March 25)

3. Growth & Development permission form (Due March 18)

Check with your child to see if yours have been returned or if they are still smashed at the bottom of their book bags :)

Thanks for your support,

Mr. B

CRCT Practice Week

Parents,

As we begin the approach and preparation for the CRCT, here's some tips to help your student prepare.

1. As them questions about what they are reading after they complete their 25 minutes

2. Bring home the math book on the weekends (or during the week) and use the chapter review sections to study past lessons/concepts.

3. Purchase a CRCT review workbook for reading or math at a store like Schoolbox, etc.  **Make sure they have the updated 2007-2008 GPS curriculum and not the past QCC standards**

4. Use the CRCT website  www.georgiaoas.org  along with your student's personal log in to try provided practice tests.

5. Homework.  All concepts from now until the CRCT that are taught in class and assigned as homework will be on the CRCT.  Keep up the hard work and ask questions!

More to come... but these should get you started.  The more you do the better prepared you are.  We want students to be confident, not scared :)

Writing Assesment

Students & Parents,

Our Writing Assesment will be on Wednesday (3/5)  Students will receive an individual prompt and 2 hours to brainstorm, create a rough draft, and finalize a final draft.  The possible writing peices are:

- Informational

-Persuasive

-Narrative

We have been reviewing the brainstorming for all of these so that students can advance quickly into their rough draft writing.  Please check the links below and help them review Tuesday night.  We look forward to them shining on Wednesday!

Short Week!

Dear Students & Parents,

CRCT:

Thanks for checking in.  We hope the long weekend allowed everyone to catch up on sleep so we can make this finally run before the CRCT.  Tomorrow we will learn how to log into the CRCT practice website at school and have each student record their personal login number in their agendas.  (These numbers are also on their ITBS records that were handed out at conferences)  The student password is "education".  We encourage everyone to take advantage of extra practice at home in any subject they like.  Over the next few weeks, we will be using this great tool during lessons to practice test taking skills and to build confidence in what we've learned so far.  (Also to help identify anything that may need to be revisited).  Here is a link to the site:

https://www.georgiaoas.org/servlet/a2l

Spelling:

A change this week, my spelling group will not have a work packet due to the short week, instead they have a list of review words from the past that they should be prepared to spell and identify each meaning.

Math:

My math group has a quiz on Friday in geometry.  I really, really, really, encourage students to complete the optional review sheet.  It will help them a bunch on the quiz in more ways than one! (Hint, hint!)

Thanks for checking in-

Mr. B
